Door stop test bench

Test bench for rubber or metal door stops; Reproduces friction conditions on door stops.

THE SOLUTION PROVIDED BY LF TECHNOLOGIES

Our client manufactures and markets home improvement and DIY products such as adhesive tapes, fixings, insulation, profiles, floor accessories, etc.

Main functions

Objective

Design and build a test fixture that can test the force exerted on a door stop when the door is opened quickly.

Problematic Issues

The bench must be able to simulate the slamming of doors of different inertia at different speeds. It must also be able to measure closing forces and friction.

Solution and Result

A motorised arm fixed to the work surface simulates the movement of a door, either to test the friction of a door bottom against the floor, or to test the support of the door on a stop or on a seal.

The arm is fitted with removable weights to simulate the weight of a real door.

The machine is controlled by special software developed in LabVIEW. The basic functions of the machine (arm and cylinder movements, etc.) are controlled by the motor’s variable speed drive.

Operation of the machine is very simple and intuitive. The operator sets the test parameters and then controls the machine via 2 buttons/views located on the control panel. The first button starts and stops the tests, and the second locks and unlocks the safety cover.

The door stop test bench is designed to test the force exerted on a door stop using 3 test parameters:

  • Door opening movement
  • Door closing movement
  • Fatigue door opening and closing test (based on a configurable number of cycles)

Door stop

A door stop prevents the door from colliding with the wall (in the event of a draught, for example), and cushions the impact at the end of the movement.
