Specimen polishing machine
Polishing machine for metal specimens. Polishes specimens manually or automatically.
THE SOLUTION PROVIDED BY LF TECHNOLOGIES
Our client, a market leader, is a producer and supplier of electricity in France and Europe for companies, local authorities and individuals.
Main functions
Objective
Repeatedly polish metal specimens to assess the effect of polishing type on specimen strength.
PROBLEMATIC ISSUES
Our customer wants to carry out low-cycle fatigue tests at very low strains on metal specimens. For this type of test, the influence of the surface condition of the specimens is particularly important, and must be known or controlled and repeatable. Our client is looking for a polishing device to control polishing and then study its influence on the mechanical characteristics of the specimen.
SOLUTION AND RESULT
LF Technologies has designed a system for the automatic polishing of test specimens using an abrasive bar, which is easy to use thanks to its control panel and PC control, enabling users to create their own test programmes.
To meet customer requirements, this bench has two workstations in its upper section, one automatic and one manual.
The automatic station consists of a spindle supporting the test piece, which can move in a horizontal plane, and a second spindle supporting the abrasive used to polish a test piece, using a programme defined by the operator. The spindle supporting the test piece pivots around a horizontal axis to come into contact with the abrasive bar.
The manual station is equipped with a chuck, tailstock and hand rest for hand polishing.
This polishing machine enables repeatable polishing of specimens using different types of polish.
