Triaxial dynamometer for various textiles
The triaxial dynamometer allows deformations to be applied to a square or rectangular textile specimen by performing tensile tests at high temperature.
THE SOLUTION PROVIDED BY LF TECHNOLOGIES
Our client is the Institut Français pour l’expertise et l’innovation des entreprises de mode, textile et habillement. It supports companies from the fabric sector in their drive to become more competitive.
Main functions
Objective
Apply deformations to a square or rectangular textile test piece.
PROBLEMATIC ISSUES
Carry out 2D tensile tests and punching of material in tension, at variable temperature, with a large force amplitude and non-contact 2D deformation measurement.
SOLUTION AND RESULT
The tensile test rig proposed by our engineers has 4 axes on the same plane, enabling 2D traction to be applied to the 4 corners of a test specimen.
The textile test piece is secured by clamps at each end of the axles.
A 5th axis, perpendicular to the tensile plane, is used for punching tests.
Each traction axle is fitted with a 2-stage force transducer system (providing a very wide measurement range). These force transducers are connected to the grippers via air cushion guides (fluid bearings).
The test area, in the centre of the test bench, is protected by a removable thermal enclosure to limit the risk of burns. The regulated heating system can be adjusted from -160 to 250°C, enabling a variety of temperature tests to be carried out.
A camera is used to perform extensometry, i.e. to measure the deformation of the specimen in 2D directly by vision.
This mechanical traction bench is used in the laboratory. It’s easy to use, thanks to intuitive software developed by our programming engineers. The measured values are recorded and processed in spreadsheet format. This enables customers to generate statistics and carry out analyses.
Tested product
Textile test tube
The test piece is a sample of the fabric to be characterised. It is representative of the mechanical behaviour of the material to be tested, but its shape is adapted to the test (square or rectangle).
